Mass customization will change the manufacture industry of the 21th century. As one of key technologies of mass customization, design for product family is a useful way for manufacturing enterprises to quickly develop new products, reduce cost and realize mass customization. This paper focus on several key technologies such as designing, constructing and getting basic data of product family BOM (Bill of Materials) for mass customization and product family data management as well as product family project management pertaining to the characteristics of designing and manufacturing automotive lamps. Moreover, this paper has developed automotive lamps product family data management system based on mass customization and put the system into practical use in enterprise, the system has yielded good fruits in the enterprise.Chapter 1 summarizes the changing history of manufacture industry, analyzes the meaning and essence of mass customization and product developing and designing methods of mass customization, sums up the current state of product family theory under mass customization, and finally points out primary research content and organizing structure of this paper.Chapter 2 discusses the disadvantages of conventional BOM structure and proposes one kind of BOM structure faced to product family under mass customization, it also analyzes expression of BOM in database. At the same time, this chapter discusses the getting methods of basic data of BOM in detail and proposes one kind of arithmetic of extracting drawing table information into database based on matrix expression so as to finish the constructing of basic data of BOM. Finally, this chapter points out the practical use of BOM in automotive lamps enterprise under mass customization.Chapter 3 analyzes the basic theory and function of product data management (PDM), and proposes product family data management (PFDM) which is suitable to mass customization. Moreover, this chapter analyzes the conception, characteristic and structure system of PFDM. Finally, this chapter proposes a product family model based on GBOM and points out its practical use in automotive lamps product family data management based on the designing and developing characteristic of automotive lamps.Chapter 4 analyzes the characteristic of multi-project existence in developing automotive lamps product family under mass customization, discusses realizing technique of developing automotive lamps product family to provide an effective resolving scheme for new products' variation and innovation design in using design history data while doing project developing.
