Studies On Chinese Farmer's Quality

21^st Century will witness the realization of Chinese modernization, people will become rich and a well-off society will be established. In achieving these goals, issues concerning agriculture, farmer and countryside will be the difficult and central problems. According to the Fifth Session of the Sixteenth Central Committee of the Party, building new socialist countryside will be an important historic task in Chinese modernization. In the course, farmers are the main entity, whose power cannot be replaced by others. To build new countryside, new farmers have to be cultivated. Only by educating millions of high quality farmers can the huge human resources in the countryside be transferred into human resources capital advantages, and only by forming the continual power to push forward the new socialist countryside construction can the building tasks be completed.Historical changes have taken place in Chinese agriculture and countryside ever since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, especially after the adoption of the reform and opening policy. Great achievements in rural areas have been widely acknowledged. But the fundamental situation of backwardness has not been radically changed because paradoxes hindering the further development of agriculture and rural development have not been eradicated, the long-term mechanism promoting farmers'steady income has not been established and the system and mechanism integrating the development of urban and rural areas have not been set up. So the most strenuous and arduous part of the building cause lies in the countryside. In the long run, the issues of agriculture, farmer and countryside are still the big problems in Chinese development, of which the issue concerning farmers is the key, the fundamental cause being farmers quality.Hence it is of great realistic significance to guide the construction of an all-round well-off society and to build the new socialist countryside by probing into the current status, existing problems and ways to improve farmers'quality on the integration of theory and practice.The thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter 1 is the introduction, in which the current status and progress of the domestic and abroad studies are analyzed. The key and difficult points in study have been proposed and the research methods as well as technical routes have been made clear. Chapter 2 is the platform to analyze relative theories relating to farmers'quality. First the concept of farmer is defined, then basic theories of home and abroad about labor's quality are analyzed. Chapter 3 deals with the current status of Chinese farmers. Farmers'qualities in culture, science and technology, thoughts and ideology, hygiene and health and awareness of law etc have to be improved. Chapter 4 analyzes the factors influencing farmers'qualities. This analysis is based on agricultural production means, imbalance in education, economy, dual structure of urban and rural areas, and history, culture and conventional ideas etc. Chapter 5 proposes the countermeasures and measures to improve farmers'quality.
