Analysis Of Current Situation Of Informatization Of CD Company And Study Of Improvement Solutions

It is well known that information technology is one of the critical success factor for the development of modern enterprises. The author of this paper takes office in CD company which is an integrated full-service engineering corporation mainly engaged in the engineering design activities. It is also a knowledge and technology intensive enterprise. During the past 50 years, CD company has extended its service scope from traditional chemical, petrochemical industry to paper making, new materials and power industry, etc. It has been awarded more than one thousand of engineering consulting, design and turn-key lump-sum contracts. CD company become the leading engineering corporation in China because it insists on the policy of technological leadership in long term. Its core competence consists of its process technology, engineering design technology, project management ability and its talent workforce. As one of the critical support of the core competence, the intensive application of information technology has played a very important role for the rapid growth and development of CD company. The application of information technology in CD company grow out from nothing and has experienced the process from simple to comprehensive. During the last decade, the support of information technology to the business and operation management of CD company becomes much more important and obvious. Information technology’s value creation ability to enterprise appears gradually. In the current intense competition environment, how to intensify the application of information technology to adapt the quick change of customer demand and win more contracts becomes a big issue for CD company. According to the analysis and diagnosis of the current situation of informatization of CD company, We find that there exists some problems of informatization in CD company. The current information systems can not completely satisfy the internal demand of operation and management. Compared with the informatization level of some leading domestic engineering companies (such as Sinopec Engineering Incorporation and Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering Corporation) and some large international engineering companies (such as Fluor Corporation and Bechtel Corporation), there exists some gap for CD company. In this paper, based on the author’s working experience and internal informatization investigation, the current situation and achievements of informatization of CD company are described and analyzed. Some big problems related with informatization and their adverse impact on company’s core business, operation and management are also described and analyzed. The relevant improvement solutions are proposed and described in this paper.This paper consists of four chapters.In chapter 1, the basic information, development history and current strategy of CD company are described. The key success factors of engineering company are analyzed. The support effect of information technology to key success factors for engineering company is discussed.In chapter 2, the application history of information technology in CD company and the current situation of informatization are described. Based on the author’s working experience and investigation, the main problems and their adverse effect are discussed.In chapter 3, the improvement countermeasures and solutions of informatization related to engineering design, project management and integrated information management of CD company are proposed and discussed.In chapter 4, the mode and procedures to implement the improvement solutions are discussed. The key success factors of implementation of solutions are also analyzed. Some constructive suggestions are proposed.This paper describes the key success factors of engineering company and the support effect of informatization. The current situation of informatization of CD company is analyzed and its related problems are proposed. The corresponding improvement countermeasures and solutions are proposed and described. This paper can be a helpful reference for the informatization in CD company. It is also a good reference for other engineering companies and design companies.
