Since 1998 when postal industry was separated from telecommunication sector, the State Post Bureau has adopted the strategy of Revitalize the postal industry by adopting advanced science and technology" and persisted in its efforts to build up a postal comprehensive network by using the information technology . In order to pursue a leap-forward development of postal industry, the State Post Bureau took this opportunity to bring the role of IT into full play in fuelling the growth of postal economy.The core competitive advantage of the postal sector is to combine the postal physical distribution network and modern IT in a rational way. The ERP system could improve the core competitiveness of postal industry by integrating the operation of information exchange, capital flow and physical distribution. The management experience of a successful company can be summarized as follows: standard, transparent, swift and cooperative. In that sense, the construction of ERP is undoubtedly an inevitable choice for China Post. The development of informatization and digitalization in postal sector is of great significance for the building of ERP system. The revamping of traditional postal services through hi-technology will maximize the functions of information resources of the national postal networks. As a result, the management, service quality and productivity will be improved and the competitiveness of the postal sector will be enhanced. China Post now is providing numerous services for its customers which are supported by various systems. Despite the adoption of IT, many operation and statistics can only be handled manually owing to the diversity of systems and the huge differences from one region to another. Therefore, the collection of information was time-consuming, low efficient and less accurate. With the improvement of management and development of the industry, it becomes clear that the postal sector urgently needs a system which can provide accurate information timely to facilitate the decision-making process. The upgrade of IT system is inevitable for a modern postal sector and is key to the construction of ERP system.
