Research In The System For Evaluating The Performance Of Commercial Bank

For years, the performances of commercial banks have been researched broadly and deeply. In developed country, the system about evaluating the performances of commercial banks, involving ideology, model building and operation in practice, has been constructed sophisticatedly. Because of historical elements, a little progress of constructing such system has been making in china, where financial industry and banking sector expanded markedly and became the strong economical leverage which is pushing the economy to grow and society to advance. So constructing the system about evaluating the performance of commercial banks is very meaningful in reality.After briefly reviewing the developing progress about the performance of commercial banks both in domestic and in aboard, this dissertation put forward that such construction should focus on the overall ideology, principles and processes which are comprehensive, coordinate and sustainable. And based on the analysis about the key elements influencing the performance of commercial banks, it proposed three balanced dimensions, including strategy development, operation management and market practice, to evaluate the performance of commercial banks.In the author's opinion, the system about evaluating the performance of commercial banks should measure these balanced dimensions in an objective, accurate and even way. Constructing such system included choosing a series indicators to assess the performance of each dimension and giving appropriate weight in order to conclude the final index of the performance.Applying the system constructed by the methodology mentioned above to analysis the performance of some listing banks in 2003 and comparing their performance indexes as well as assessment indicators respectively, the author provided some useful suggestions about how to improve the performance of commercial banks.
