Since 1990s, especially after China's entry into WTO, more and more Multinational Corporations (MNCs) have been transferring their R&D institutions into China. However, in contrast to FDI location distribution for their manufacturing and selling, the location choice of their R&D investment in China shows its own characteristics and law of more unbalanced and concentrated features. This thesis focuses on the study on the location choice of MNCs' R&D investment in China.First of all, based on the literature review of location theory of MNCs' FDI Investment, namely, cost efficiency theory and location factors theory, the author reviews the literature on location choice of MNCs' R&D investment, which includes the motives, conditions and effects of location choice of MNCs' R&D investment. The previous theories and positive research focus on the factors affecting the location choice of MNCs' R&D investment, as well as some studies on effect analysis of the locating distribution of MNCs' R&D investment. All these certainly serve as a good guideline for our study on location choice of MNCs' R&D investment in China.Secondly, on the basis of the analysis into the development course and the establishment mode of MNCs' R&D Investment in China, the author lays emphasis on the locating Characteristics and the factors affecting the location choice of MNCs' R&D Investment in China. Qualitative studies show that the location factors include: regional economic development and market scale, regional scientific research capability and intellectual resources, cluster advantages of regional industries, regional R&D investment environment. Quantitatively, the author sets up an index system to evaluate the locating conditions of MNCs' R&D Investment in China, and adopts the multi-linear regression model to analyze these quantitative factors. The conclusion is as follows: the most important factors are R&D expenditure, regional per capita GDP and FDI; The second important factors are high-technology industry, quantities of R&D scientists and engineers and quantities of domestic authorized patents. The regional Internet users and per capita wage are relative unimportant.Thirdly, this thesis focus on effect analysis of the locating distribution of MNCs' R&D investment in China. It uses the typical cases of MNCs' R&D investment in Beijing and Microsoft R&D investment in China to reveal the effects on the R&D, Personnel Structure, industrial structure of investment area in China.
