Study On Controll Strategy Of Overseas Copper Mineral Resources

Over recent years, the domestic demand of copper has being maintained an annual rate of around 9% thanks to Chinese rapidly economic growth. The average growth rate of Chinese refined copper consumption in recent ten years is 2.4 times as much as the world. China has become the leading country of copper consumption in the world in place of the United States. Being restricted by natural resource, current annual copper output produced from the domestic copper mines can only meet 30% demands of Chinese copper smelters and refineries. Chinese Smelters and refineries need to purchase a great deal of copper concentrates in the international spot market to meet the needs of production and consumption. Similar to crude oil and iron ore, Chinese copper materials are becoming more and more dependent on importation. Many experts in the field of copper industry worry that pricing right of imported copper materials in the hands of Western Mineral Companies will threaten sustainable and continuous development of Chinese copper industry. Experts inside and outside Chinese copper industry should study countermeasures actively to avoid following in the steps of crude oil and iron ore, to take full advantage of two markets and two kinds of resource both at home and abroad and to ensure that national economy maintains continuous, rapid and healthy development.Through the analysis of global and domestic copper supply and demand, surviving conditions of Chinese copper smelters and refineries, the thesis puts forward that globalization strategy of overseas investment and controlling copper resource outside China is the fundamental route to solve shortage of Chinese copper resource. On the basis of theories and combined with a great deal of data, information and demonstration, feasibility of carrying out the control strategy of overseas copper resource has been analyzed and proved. The strategy target and specific measures of controlling overseas copper resource as well as implementation process have been established and discussed. The thesis presents initially a point of view that the success of Chinese overseas copper mineral resource control strategy depends on the support of government actively industrial policy in conjunction with enterprises'improvement of globalized management ability by principle of benefit.
