At present, search engine has become a model case of "changing business with technology. At the same time, it has been changing itself and has evolved from a pour technology to a combination of service provider and content provider till a media platform. During the process, its profit model became clear and diversified. Compared with the fast development of search engine, the theories on its profit model are still immature. Some basic theories are put forward, but they are so scattered that a logical system in this aspect couldn't be formed. Also people are short of the deep understanding of the existed profit models and the summarization of the innovation in this field. In this way, these theories can't really be helpful to the development of search engine in practice. Consulting to the latest study outcomes both in and abroad, the writer tried to systemize the theories on the profit model of search engine which can be useful for the companies who would like to promote their sales through search engine and the capital investors who paid tense attention to the development of search engine.
