In current intense competitive market, in the view of the society knowledge and development, information resource like other national important fundamental resource such as materials and energy, has become the necessary factor in economy, politics and culture activities in the society. Competition in the future is not only that of physical material but information resource. The party who owns more information resources will take vantage point.Enterprise Resource Planning, i.e. ERP, is a current international popular information management system, conforming to the need of enterprise management demand in globalization competition, integrating information in supply chains, which is an advanced modern enterprise management mode. The core of ERP is as follows: based on computers, sorting and distributing company resources rationally, thus makes the enterprise more powerful in intense competition.Since 1970s, IT has been startup and developed in China, and has entered a new era with IT application in large scale companies. Especially in steel industry, most large steel companies are planning or executing the projects of information such as ERP, MES and Commercial Intelligence, and reached good effects. But in some cases, some problems arise such as the ignorance from the top leader, badly risk control, wrong choice of software, project consultant unfamiliar with steel industry and bad cooperation, etc. It is noticed that ERP online access is only the first step to success, the sustainable improvement to the system and promotion the ERP in application deeply and widely can serve for company decision making better.In this dissertation JN steel company is analyzed as a case. With the information construction theories, on basis of combination of theory and practice, adapting the flow analysis method, it is analyzed in detail both the problems in ERP application and the success and failure factors in JN Steel. And a solution is put forward against the ERP disadvantage in JN Steel, by process analysis, persistent improvement and performance evaluationThree innovation ideas in this dissertation are: As the complexity of the steel industry, enhancing the system structure decides the height of the IT implementation in a company; the implementation of the IT project improves with the improvement of the company management, persistent improvement is the rules that must be insisted in; the performance analysis in ERP Project must be enhanced, the index system for checking must be setup.This dissertation is hoped to be helpful for ERP implementation of the in steel companies.
