Macau's gambling industry is growing rapidly in the recent years. Particularly in the year 2004, the rate of GDP experienced a historical breakthrough and had increased by 28%. As a result, Gambling and Tourism becomes leading industry in Macau. Under the influence of individual visit scheme and her territorial advantage over the Pearl River Delta, Macau has gained her popularity among international communities, thus attracting many foreign investments. Though Macau is flourishing under this economic climate, there are many hidden agenda; such as: property market uptrend is divorced from consumers' purchasing power, distribution of human resources falls on gaming sector and creates a wide gap between the rich and the poor, medium-size business's operating cost rise, competition from overseas gaming legalization and etc. All these social and economical problems exert an enormous pressure on Macau's long-term development.This thesis is base upon through investigation on the diversification of Macau Tourism; pinpointing not only on gambling industry, but also the importance of developing convention and exhibition, culture tourism, entertainment and holidays, food and shopping paradise, and corporation between Macau and Zhuhai. All these aim to create a new image and change the public's perception of Macau as a gambling city. Consequently, continuous development of Macau Tourism could endure and conflicts derived from such expeditious development could be relieved.
