After adopting the opening policy for over than 20 years, China's furniture industry sector has seen a fast development and achieved a large scale of industrialized production. Under the effect of worldwide economy system, the whole world's furniture production area is undertaking a transfer process, China has increasingly become the world's production centre of furniture. The furniture export in China experiences a quick growth, the export value jumped to the first rank in the world in 2005 and China became the first largest furniture exporting country. At the mean time, however, China is also facing a severe competition, especially after the entering into the World Trade Organization (WTO). The furniture tariff was reduced to 0 from the initial 22% which enable a much easier entrance of foreign furniture into China's market, while forcing China's furniture industry to stand at the same scratch line to compete with developed countries' furniture industry. Therefore, enhancing furniture industry's capacity of international competition, enlarging international trade market have become the key task and challenge of China's furniture industry.Within the furniture industry development, wood furniture industry holds the balance. The writer takes the wood furniture industry as the analysis point, briefly analyzes the general development status, trade status and furniture value chain of world wood furniture industry; and attaches more importance to the analysis of China's furniture industry, including the general development status in the relevant aspects and faced challenges and problems in the international trade; in the end, based on the present development status of wood furniture industry, points out the existing problem and proposes some major measures and suggestions for improvement.The writer takes the "smiling curve" as the main thread, from the microcosmic point of view, suggest that adjusting the industrial structure, strengthen branding and marketing skill, increasing added value of product to improve the international competition power of China furniture product, upgrade the position of China's furniture industry in the whole value chain of international furniture industry. Meanwhile, from the macrocosmic point of view, suggests that further completing relevant laws and policies, such as appropriate foreign trade policy to support the adjustment of industrial structure, preferable policy for the healthy development of furniture industry clusters to provide policy support and supervision. At last but not least, fully take the advantage of supervision initiative of furniture association to facilitate a favorable international trade development of China's furniture industry...
