In recent decades, China has established herself as a manufacturing powerhouse. But most enterprises in the industry are labour intensive firms transferred from developed Western, in which flow-line productions are usually applied. Workers tend to be tired of flow-line work, for that the body is often overloaded by repetitive motions, while mental functions are under-used. Innovative forms of working are among the practical solutions, one of the best and most widely implemented is flexible working. This paper aims to design a flexible work arrangement adapting to flow-line production by studying the existing forms of the flexible working combined with the practice of manufacturing in China, especially in Guangdong. It reaches a solution based on shift working with a special self-rostering system. This flexible working arrangement features that the workers in the flow-line can select their shift and production line to balance work and life. |
