Management And Application Of A Village's Symbolic Capital

The thesis concentrates on two activities and one symbolic capital in the Huangchao Village of Liubu Town, Jinan. The two activities are the ceremony of praying for rain which happened in the past and the Dragon Lantern Fair since reform and opening-up. The symbolic capital is refered to many legendaries about Huangchao which are inherited and disseminated from generation to generation in the village. The inhabitants of Huangchao village chosen "Huangchao" as their village symbol, then took it as their "symbolic resource" by way of local transformation on the legendaries, furthermore made it as their "symbolic capital" by way of sustainable management. They obtained the leadership of the ceremony, the discourse power in community, market leadership power and the local development priority through using the village symbolic capital in the activities.The thesis consists of five chapters. The first one is an introduction of genesis, significance, academic history and present situation, methods and procedures of this thesis. The second one generally introduces the village life space from three aspects: the natural environment, the society and people and the origin relations between the Huangchao village and Huangchao. The rest three chapters are emphases of this thesis. In these chapters, the author analyzes how the inhabitants made their village symbol "Huangchao" as their "symbolic resource" by way of local transformation on the legendaries, then made it as their "symbolic capital" by way of sustainable management in the activities of praying for rain and how they are making new understanding, reorganization, enforcement and application in the activities of the Dragon Lantern Fair and the practices of new round of economic development since reform and opening-up with the help of economic research methods, such as resource, capital, management and application on the basis of materials which come from files, documents and field studies.The author analyses and studies some folk custom items and some sides of the intangible cultural heritage through using economic research methods. It will benefit the study of the inheritance vitality of folk custom items and intangible cultural heritage from generation to generation. Based on this study, we could make a more effective protection on them. With this thesis, the author hopes to give a useful discussion on research thinking.
