Nyingchi Folk Custom Tourism Development

Different from ordinary sightseeing and holiday tourism, folk-custom tourism is under the category of special tourism. It is of strong ethnic and regional features, and emphasizes distinctive specialties. In the context of globalization, folk-custom tourism has been the best medium for developing folk-custom and traditional culture, and its significance in cultural heritage is of great importance. Folk-custom tourism is the kind of tourism possessing the most development potentiality among the current tourism industry. With the Qinghai-Tibet railway and Nyingchi Airport opened, its central status among Tibetan folk-custom tourism has gradually been apparent. Boasting of its unique climate and resources conditions, Nyingchi is the best platform of stablishing a tourism circle and has a great potentiality for folk-custom tourism. This paper conducts a preliminary study in the folk-custom tourism resources and development strategies for the folk-custom tourism in Nyingchi, and investigates the profile and features of the folk-custom resources, the current development status and problems of the folk-custom tourism in Nyingchi area. In the paper, based on the understanding of the profile and development status of the folk-custom resources in Nyingchi area, market research for the local folk-custom tourism development is conducted, and development strategies are finally discussed.Concerning with the development of folk-custom tourism, Nyingchi area should adopt a strategy of sustainable development and combination of development and protection. The basic fundamentals are as follow: cultural protection, combination of development and ecological environment protection, development of the folk-custom resources specialties, combination of diversity and participation, and combination of economic, social and cultural benefits. Ideas and steps for the development of folk customs include: expansion of publicity, improvement of service quality, expansion of financing channels, improvement of tourism infrastuture, taining professionals, and increasing government policy support, etc. The folk-custom tourism development mainly start with the development of tourism products, tourism commodities and tourism service, and finally, comprehensive development of scenery spots should be conducted in accordance with the local advantages. The Nyingchi area is abundant in folk-custom tourism resources, and has a broad market prospect. Under the national policy of developing the western area, it is a good opportunity for the local to develop the folk-custom tourism industry. Therefore, the Nyingchi areas should make full use of the local folk-custom tourism resources, and give full play to the advantages of the folk-custom products of each ethnic group to develop its folk-custom tourism industry, with an aim to revitalize the local economy and promote the ethnic cultures.
