Dynamic Transformation Of China's Growth Pattern In Trade

China is a giant but not a powerful country in trade. It is believed in the paper that the present growth pattern in trade is featured as: the basic characteristic is the expansion in number; the main form of the export trade is processing trade; the main body is the export of the three kinds of foreign-invested enterprises (Sino-foreign joint ventures, cooperative businesses and exclusively foreign-owned enterprises in China), especially the hi-tech export; the structure of the export market is comparatively homogeneous. After a positive study of the effect of the growth pattern, it is confirmed that the growth of China's foreign trade has promoted her economic growth. But with the growth in trade, some problems also arise: highly dependent economic trade, declining industrial technology instead of advancing, deteriorating price terms in trade, serious environment pollution, high cost of resources, soaring cases in anti-dumping and other trade barriers. Only by transforming the growth pattern in trade can China achieve sustainable development and become a true powerful country in trade so as to keep foreign trade work as a MOTOR for China's economic growth. It is thought that the static comparative advantage theory is the foundation of China's present growth pattern in trade. China should produce and export labor-intensive products for her rich labor force. Yet the static comparative advantage theory ignores the exploitation of China's production factors and the cultivation and formation of comparative advantage. China can achieve a dynamic transformation in two aspects, factors structure and technology advancement so as to transform the growth pattern in foreign trade, which includes, specifically, transforming between industries, among industries and among products. According to the connotation and theoretic foundation of the dynamic transformation of China's growth pattern in trade, this paper proposes that, firstly, it is to transform the factors structure by factors flow and combination; secondly, it is to set up an innovation system guided by the government and relied mainly on enterprises to advance technology; at last, it is to fully exert the harmonious effect of the middle organizations.
