Traditional mass tourism attaches much importance to the economic profits while it is intendedto meet people's need in aesthetics. But, behind the high-speed development of tourism, it hasdifficulties in dealing with the relationship between man and the nature with the problems arousedin eco-environment and resources in tourist spots. Eco-tourism is the result of advocatingharmonious coexistence of human beings and the nature, which also indicates both people's newconcept of tourism and their ecological conceptions reflected in recreation behaviors. It advocatessuch ideas as the harmonious coexistence of man and the nature and enjoying the nature withoutdestroying the environment, which essentially derive from a concept of man's going back to thenature. Superficially, it comes from people's attention to "the exterior" of traditional mass tourismwhile in philosophy. it suggests people's wakening of environmental ethics.Tourist theories become mature with the change of paradigm when tourism develops from theprivileged minority's activities at the beginning into the present popular mass behaviors. In theauthor's view, eco-tourism is essentially a kind of ecological culture based on the recognition ofman's relationship with the nature, and it is a new tourism paradigm under the guidance ofeco-ethics. Besides, it reflects on the ideas of the traditional man-oriented mass tourism and correctspeople's misunderstanding about tourist resources and the ecological environment. This thesis studies the case of the eco-tourism experiment point of Engebei desert in Erdos,Inner Mongolia through both it's fight against desert's encroaching and it's development in tourism. In developing eco-tourism, much attention is to be paid to adjust the relationship between thetourism development and the environment. Eco-tourism can be meaningful and helpful in man'sgong back to the nature and in constructing the harmony between man and the nature. The final object of tourism is to keep people's tourist activities and the nature in harmony andto realize the permanent use of tourist resources and the sustainable development of tourism.Eco-tourism provides an opportunity to achieve this.
