As the connotation of capital is enriched continually, social capital has become the focus by many subjects as a powerful tool of explanation. In the framework of economics, social capital has brought some factors which were ignored before but be important to the development of economics into the analysis, it extends economics research scope, and provides a perspective to explain the phenomena of economics. With the development of social capital theory, the number of relevant research documents in this field increases at an exponential speed, and it has been widely applied in building of democracy, economy development, collective actions and the individuals'income growth. From the researches of those relevant documents we can see: firstly, although there is huge amount of the researches in social capital, the integral theory framework of analysis is not formed yet. The researches in China mostly concentrate on summarizing of the overseas researches and analyzing the role of social capital in corporation development, farmers'employment and so on, but the researches of incoming effect are few. Secondly, the construction of index system measuring social capital is still developing. In our country, the method measuring social capital on individuals'or families'levels in domestic researches is the method of network measurement. Although the social network is an important part of social capital, it can not be the substitution to social capital. Therefore, this paper will improve the measurement of social capital, based on the fact in our country. Thirdly, the scholars in our country have discussed questions about income increasing of the farmers from points of view such as urbanization, labors transferring and the city country development coordination and so on, but these papers concerning income increasing of farmers from quantitative analysis of social capital are rare, so this is the task of this paper. This paper constructs the theoretical framework of measuring social capital by researching relevant documents, and also builds the social capital index system which reflects the social capital of rural households. All these analyses are based on the survey data from the face-to-face interviews on the farmers whose family income are monitored by Sichuan Statistics Bureau. SAS,SPSS and Excel are used in this paper, some statistical analysis methods are applied to measure the social capital and find the influential factors, search the relationship between social capital and farmers'income. This paper is divided into five chapters. Its main contents and structure are as follows:Chapter-1 is introduction. Firstly, this part introduces the background on the topic of this paper, the purpose of this paper and its value; secondly, this part defines the rural households, capital and social capital and other relevant concepts; and then, the research thoughts, structure and the choose of the methods are described. Finally the preparation of this paper, including the research sites selected and data collection.Chapter-2 contains analysis of measuring social capital. This part constructs social capital index on the principal component analysis and compares social capital and relevant social capital elements of typical counties and villages by using non - parametric analysis. And it concludes that the higher the economic level of a region is; the higher level of family social capital it has. It also concludes the structural social capital have positive correlation with the level of economic development; but from this cognitive social capital have the opposite conclusion which means the higher the economic level is, the lower the trust degree is.Chapter-3 mainly analyzes the influential factors on social capital. This chapter finds the main influential factors of the whole samples, separate regions and villages by stepwise regression method; meanwhile, their differences are fully analyzed by comparison. Main factors influencing on social capital include the householder's age, education background, cultivating social capital and whether a family has a phone, and furthermore political ID and whether or not the householder act as administrative duty also have impact on social capital. Finally from main factors affecting social capital we can prove that social capital of individuals is invested by spending time, energy and money; on the other hand it demonstrates basic circumstances such as traffic transports Communication facilities play important roles in increasing social capital of rural householders.Chapter-4 is about the relevant analysis on social capital and farmer income. The positive results demonstrate that social capital has notably promotive role in farmer income increasing. Every component of structural social capital has notable effect on farmer income increasing. But only the effects of trust and reciprocity of cognitive social capital is notable. By using accumulated regression model analyzing, social capital can influence on farmers'appraisal of their income situation. The farmers who have more social capital tend to think that their incomes have been improved in recent years and are more satisfied for their current incomes. So they are more inclined to have optimistic attitude to their income increasing in the future.Chapter-5 is the conclusions and policy suggestions. The conclusions are: firstly, as a conception of abundant connotation, the measurement of social capital is comparatively difficult, but it can be exploring measured by designing appropriate index system and using statistical analysis method. Secondly, the region difference is distinct of whole farmers` social capital. Thirdly, the influential factors on social capital include nature, economy and social circumstances and so on. Evidence provided for choosing policy which would promote the social capital by specific positive analysis. Fourthly, social capital is a marked and availability approach which has great effect in promoting farmer's income. Based on the analysis, five advices of policies are put forward: firstly, lead farmers to strengthen social capital fostering and improve the level. Secondly, help the peasants to change their out-of-date mentality and develop their sense of market economy. Thirdly, enhance rural infrastructural construction of backward area and improve the development environment. Fourthly, increases the rural education invests of backward area and vigorously develop the rural education. Fifthly, play the role of government guidance and develop economy which has comparative advantage under the local conditions. At last, this study is sponsored by following researches: Social Capital Measurement, chaired by Professor Nie ,the Statistics Bureau of research in 2006; Building New Rural Areas In Sichuan Under The Perspective Of Social Capital Planning Project 2006 Sichuan Philosophy and Social Sciences (the 11th Five-Year Plan) (Approval No : SC06B038); Under The Perspective Of Social Capital Sichuan urban poverty Theoretical and Empirical Study chaired by Professor Chaoming Wang Sichuan Philosophy and Social Sciences (11th Five-Year Plan) important Item of Planning Project in 2006 (Approval No: SC06A008); Summer project"Rural Areas",SWUFE, 2006.
