As one of the frontier problems of geography, land use change and its driving force have become the key research issue of up-to-date geosciences, especially in the field of earth surface system. The issue has come to social attention. It is very important to research the change of land resource quantity and quality, not only for ensuring region economy sustainable development but also for protecting environment safety of mankind survival. The paper's object region is Yining city of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, which countryside and town are regarded as the basic statistic units. It integrates the normal and space techniques to analyze the spatio-temporal process and its driving factors inducing land change by mathematical statistic method. According to abovementioned results, some countermeasures are presented to promote land resource sustainable use of this object region. In any case, this research will was helpful not only for analyzing and collecting land use dynamic change information, but for advancing land ecoenvironmental construction and region sustainable development. The paper firstly analyzes the essential situations about land use in Yining city based on acquainting its natural, social and economic condition. Further it summaries the characteristics and problems of land resource use, according to its status, pattern and degree. Then the paper mainly discusses the land use change process and its driving force. On the one hand, it analyzes the land use change situations by indexes cited consisting of average annual change intensity, utilization degree change rate and relative change rate of land use. And we find there are many characters about land use in Yining, such as multiplicity of style, moderate degree, increasing rapid, regional diversity and so on. On the other hand, it analyzes the driving mechanism of land use change arising from natural and human factors. The results show that human factors consisted of population; economy, urbanization and policy are more influencing than natural ones. Finally, the paper presents several corresponding countermeasures and suggestions about land use planning, protecting cultivated land, land resource allocation, land ecology construction, etc. It aims to guide land use change to a healthy, ordered, intensive and sustainable way.
