Today we human beings are facing a series of problems, such as population increasing fast, resources shortage, environment degeneration and destroyment etc.The sustainable development of resource, environment and our society is becoming the study focus in the whole world. And all these questions are relative with the land. The Farming-Grazing Transitional Zone in North China lies between the northern grazing district and the southern farming district. The land area there is very broad and it plays a very important role in the agriculture development of our country. However as an ecological fragility zone and with the unreasonable anthropogenic activities such as unreasonable land use and exploring model, wind erosion and land desertification are threatening the sustainable development there. So it's of great importance to research how to use the land there reasonably without the ecological environment being destroyed.Shangyi county lies among the three provinces, Hebei, Shanxi and Neimenggu. It's in the middle of the Farming-Grazing Transitional Zone in North China. And at the same time, it's at the traditional zone from the plateau to its nearby district. The physical condictions and the development of society and economy in this county is typical in the Transitional Zone. The research uses mathematical models as the main methods, and regards the land sustainable use as the goal. The outline of this thesis is as the following: (1) situation and existing problem of land use;(2) analysis of land use's spatial and temporal changes and the main driving forces;(3)prediction of population and analysis of the requirement for land basis on the grain safety;(4)study of sustainable land use patern;(5)regional dividing of different land districts;(6)advice of land sustainable use.The dissertation consists of five parts.
