A Research Of Intra-Industry Trade And Readjustment Of Manufacturing Industrial Structure In ASEAN 5

ASEAN has made remarkable achievements in trade, investment, industry and finance in its long developing process. ASEAN has become one of the most successful regional economic organizations in the Asian-Pacific region. Since the signature of "The framework agreement on comprehensive economic co-operation between the People's Republic of China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations" in 2002, ASEAN and China have started their steps of establishing the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (FTA), which marked a new stage of economic and trade cooperation. This thesis tries to research intra-industry trade and readjustment of manufacturing industrial structure in ASEAN 5 by using positive analysis and case analysis. At first, this thesis analyzes the intra-industry trade's effects on readjustment of manufacturing industrial structure theoretically. Then this thesis analyzes the general scale of intra-industry trade in ASEAN 5 and the development of intra-industry trade in ASEAN 5 comparatively. By using GL index to calculate the level of intra-industry trade in ASEAN 5, it is found that: intra-industry trade in every industry or member country is unbalanced, but concentrated in manufacturing industry, belongs to vertical intra-industry trade to a great extent. And then this thesis researches the present intra-industry trade and manufacturing industrial structure in ASEAN 5 by using case analysis, it is found that the characteristic of intra-industry trade is the embodiment of manufacturing industrial structure. But vertical intra-industry trade has little contribution to the readjustment of these member countries' manufacturing industrial structure, and causes some problems. Take all these factors into consideration, this thesis summarizes the present readjustment of manufacturing industrial structure in ASEAN 5 at last.
