The globalization process and the prevalence of the neoliberal system of growth have imposed new challenges for the developing countries. Among these, the problem of poverty and unequal income distribution has become an urgent issue. This study analyzes how the Brazilian government is dealing to take approximately 55 million people from the poverty condition and reduce the unequal distribution of income. In brief, the are two main perceptions concerning to income inequality in Brazil: one is that reduction of inequality matter for the country's economic development, poverty reduction, and social progress and that public policy and reform can and should do something about it. The other perception, known for a while, is that Brazil occupies a position of very high inequality in the international community. The present paper describes and evaluates the efficiency of Brazil's governmental policy orientation to reduce income inequality and poverty among its citizens. In a further conclusion, it also identifies some suggestion and common ground for cooperation from the Brazilian experience point of view that could be valuable to China's strategy on poverty reduction.
