Medical folklore is an essential part of folklore. It is a cultural legacy inherited by every nation from their ancestors. It is also a Medical culture which was created through the physical features, spiritual characteristics, ethnic customs, religious beliefs of that nation, and the natural, social and economic characteristics of the area that nation is living in.China is one of the countries that created and developed medical culture, and rich in medical folklore. During long fight against the diseases over the years, Uighur people have also created unique medical culture, and abundantly contributed to Chinese medical science.Medical folklore of people in Khotan has remained better than compared to other Uighurs living in different areas. They have put more emphasis in medical affairs and have developed it as a profession. It has been widely used in health care, and played a vital role in the continuation of Uighur medical folklore.This article applies the basic principles of folklore, anthropology, psychology, divinity, medical anthropology, and also applied field work theory which is commonly used in folklore and anthropological studies.This article mainly discusses and analyzes the field of Uighur medical folklore, its relationship with traditional Uighur medicine and religions, the perspectives of Uighurs in Khotan regarding diseases, ways of diagnosing them, and traditional ways of treating these diseases on the basis of the first hand materials obtained through field work.
