Agro-product market is the crucial link of agro-production circulation system, which has the functions of commodity distribution, price formation, and information communication and service supply. The practices of agro-product market development in China in the recent nearly twenty years indicate that in China the whole sale market of agro products has become the priority of agro-product market system construction and the core of agro-production circulation, and consequently proper construction of agro-product wholesale market not only benefits rural economic development and boosts agricultural industrialization, but also plays a pulling role that can not be undervalued in overall national economy. while briefly summarizing the importance and roles of agro-product market system construction and introducing domestic and international experiences in agro-product market system construction, The thesis analyzes the history and status quo of agro-product market system construction for Shanxi province by comparative analysis and field survey and effect-study analysis, pointing out the problems existing in agro-product market system construction for Shanxi province and putting forward the countermeasures and measures for agro-product market system for Shanxi province by event-study analysis. The thesis holds that agro-product market system construction for Shanxi province presents the following features: (1) purchasing market is dominated by immaterial market and supported by material market; (2) wholesale market is employed important distribution channel of agro-products; (3) retail market is dominated by material market and supported by immaterial market; (4) main circulation bodies under various ownerships have basically formed a pattern of competition. The problems that exist in agro-product market system construction for Shanxi province are: (1) sharp conflict between agro-product production and marketing and severely lagged agro-product market construction; (2) low overall level and regional imbalance in wholesale market; (3) lacks of united planning and clear-cut policies and rules for market construction. Consequently, the countermeasures and measures for agro-product market system construction for Shanxi province should be (1) to perfect agro-product wholesale market beginning with strengthening governmental functions,(2) to step up the construction of specialized markets according to local realities; (3) to actively foster and introduce leading enterprises by giving priority to market and circulation, (4) to raise informationization level by strengthening informationization construction,(5) to reinforce the efforts for fostering main market bodies and encourage farmers to enter circulation field, and (6) to speed up the establishment of quality standard systems of agro-products.The above results are of theoretical and practice significance to the circulation of agro-products, the increase of farmers'income, and rural economic development in Shanxi province, as well as of reference values to agro-product market constructions in similar regions.
