An Analysis On Constructing The Railway From Chengdu To Chongqing

The Chengyu Railway(CR), which is one of the most important routes from Chengdu to Chongqing, is about 505 kilometers. Nevertheless, its construction went through a way out of common. From 1903 (the beginning of the construction) to the July of 1952 (the railway was open to traffic), after several dynasties, it came into the existence by several generation's continuous efforts. Since the foundation of the PRC, there are a lot of the writing and studies on constructing CR, however, the ones on constructing CR before the liberation, especially the period of Guomindang's governing are not t he case. In this essay, the author tries to do research in the planning and enforcing conditions of constructing CR from a different angle of view. In addition, the effect and meaning which the construction of CR brought about to the PRC are also discussed. Hoping to present the reality of constructing CR during the period of time when Guomindang was on the saddle by reviewing and revealing the historical evidence of the Guomindang government's planning and constructing. By the dissertating the constructing course full of frustrations, it makes us to consider how meaningful the stability of a country brings to the building of a country.The thesis is divided into six parts. Firstly, the cause of constructing CR is mainly discussed. Secondly, the constructing of the CR in the period of the Guomindang's governing is expounded. Thirdly, the constructing of the CR after the foundation of the PRC is dissertated. The fourth part mainly probes into the general and vital project of the CR. The author mainly focuses on the rail-expanding and the railway's opening to traffic in the fifth one. In the final part, the author comprehensively analyzes the meaning and the effect which the construction of CR during the Guomindang's governing brings to the later completing the construction after the foundation of the PRC within only two years. In addition, the lesson and thought gained from the construction of the CR are also probed into.
