Improving international competitiveness of Chinese port enterprise and shipping services is essential to ensure the healthy and rapid development of Chinese port industry as well as Shanghai international shipping center in an environment of new port construction and market competition. Upon entering the 21st century, the economic globalization has brought profound changes in enterprise competitive environment, condition and rules. First, business resources are redivided and recombined on a global basis while mergers and acquisitions of global shipping and port operators have taken place with increasing frequencies, which bring forth more opportunities and possibilities on the one hand and risks and challenges on the other, to both the world economy and international port industry. Second, china's accession to WTO has opened her port market to a great extent. Therefore, "internationalization of competition in the domestic port market" becomes an inevitable tendency, with the development of Chinese port construction and the trend of investment to abroad, as well as more foreign investors expanding their market shares in Chinese port market.Chinese port shipping service companies must integrate themselves into the international market, and strive to promote their own competitiveness by aiming at expanding the port ship towing industry. Only in this way can they face up to the challenges of economic globalization and WTO accession, survive and grow in the world market of port shipping service. Therefore, finding out the potential problems of HG Tugboat Company is a valuable subject to study. As a member of this company, I feel obliged to participate in the business.In this thesis, I present my own ideas and opinions regarding the operation and development of business of HG Tugboat Company using the theories from MBA programs together with my working experiences. This dissertation is divided into seven parts. In chapter 1, there is a brief introduction of HG Tugboat Company and the valuable meaning of this subject. In chapter 2, it analyzes the theories of strategic management for enterprises and strategic environment for port. In chapter 3, it describes the external macro environment of port shipping service enterprises as well as the internal environment of port towing service enterprises. In chapter 4, based on the analysis of internal resources and abilities of HG Tugboat Company and by means of SWOT model, it concludes that the market environment is full of both challenges and opportunities. In chapter 5, it focuses on the strategic target of HG Tugboat Company and the key problems of its development. In chapter 6, it elaborates HG Tugboat Company's strategic choices and strategic operation. Chapter 7 is the conclusion.The research of this dissertation is of referential value to other Chinese port shipping service enterprises that plan to "go overseas". Therefore, by analyzing the possession of chartered vessels at home and abroad, planning of port construction and constructional and developmental tendency of Shanghai port, business environment of port towing, internal environment of HG Tugboat Company, the author hopes to ensure the HG Tugboat Company's development objectives and the market tactics of business development. In order to make HG Tugboat Company become a first class global company and secure an invincible position in the international transport market.
