Research On The Competitiveness Of Tianjin Port Based On Bohai Port Group

Now our country has stepped into the twelfth period of five-year plan,economic development has come into a new stage.The new content has been increased into the development of the port. With the rapid development of port, the competition of the ports around Bohai Region has been sharper and now Tianjin Port,Qingdao Port and Dalian Port have become the largest hub ports in this region.Each of them has its advantages,and the competition between them is very fierce.During the eleventh period of "five-year plan",the Party Central Committee decided to build Tianjin into a northern International Shipping Center and International Logistics Center.It is necessary to analysis the current development of Tianjin Port and find out the competitive advantages and deficiencies compared with Dalian Port and Qingdao Port.Based on the development trend of the port, researching the main factors to seek effective ways to enhance competitiveness of Tianjin Port and formulate the relevant strategy will influence continued competitiveness of Tianjin Port.Port competitiveness evaluation mainly includes two aspects.One is setting up port competitiveness evaluation index system,and the other is selection of port competitiveness evaluation methods.Port development is a dynamic change and influencing factors of port competitiveness is also changed.So the port competitiveness evaluation index system has no unified structure.In this paper, the new evaluation system is established based on the predecessors’ research on port competitiveness.The six new index are added in the evaluation system——direct hinterland extroverted degree,the actual use of foreign direct investment,the cooperation of the port and shipping enterprises,the degree of EDI,the development of service industry at terminal,the planning for the port development.In this way, a more comprehensive evaluation of port competitiveness is made.First,the index system of port competitiveness evaluation is established by the AHP analytic model using the data of year2011.The horizontal comparative analysis is done to evaluate the competitiveness of Qingdao Port. Dalian Port and Tianjin Port.Then,the lengthwise comparative analysis is done using the data from1996to2011to evaluate the development of Tianjin Port and Qingdao Port.Finally,SWOT is used to analysis the whole development of Tianjin Port.More comprehensive evaluation is got by using three methods above.Several suggestions was made based on the results of the analysis and the trend of the port development:plan the port infrastructure and construction projects as a whole, take an active part in the international cooperation,make the port enterprise into well-known brands,provide high-end port services and strengthen cooperation to achieve win-win situation between ports. In addition, Tianjin Port is supposed to continue to rely on government support, extend hinterland for more supply of goods and drive Tianjin Port Economic Zone to realize common development to get unique competitiveness.
