The importance of the role that project management plays in an enterprise nowadays is undeniable, and a good process is the key to project management. Therefore all enterprises are endeavoring to set up an efficient project management process that suits their distinctive needs. The X company was originally the power supply section of Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. With the passage of time, the market competition became more and more fierce. Huawei modify product development mode, and status as the sole-supplier was then changed so that multiple suppliers joined in the competition. And X company was forced to fight against other suppliers. But, as contenders grew, and X company lost advantage and lagged behind contenders. The reason behind the present situation is complicated, but one thing is for sure: The standard product development process that we have been using is the key reason for slow response time. To change the present situation, we need to reform the key point of the problem—the product development process. How to optimize the product development process by focusing on the features of customized products, to decrease our response time to customers' demands, and to shorten the product development cycle without undermining product quality. These are what this article is committed to study and resolve.This article starts by introducing the general knowledge of project management, then the advantages and disadvantages of our present project development process in detail. It is then pointed out that it is the disadvantage of this project development process that hinders the response speed to the customers' demands. In order to resolve the problem in the present project development process and to adapt to the features of development of customized products, this article puts forward the suggestions on the optimization of present process in terms of the following six fields: project architecture, main process of project development, project classification, setting of the number of project files, control over the change of project specification, as well as the control over project risks.
