Competency research began in the early 1970's in U.S.A. People have been asking a question: what is it that differentiates excellent performers from average performers? If we know what these differentiators are and can measure them, they can be used to help hire better employees, appraise employees, and help them improve their performance. These differentiating characteristics have come to called competencies. Most of researchers agree that competencies are enduring traits or characteristics that help determine job performance. This research uses many methods to explore the job competency of middle-level managers such as Division Mangagers in A Building Material Supermarket and build the competency model of Division magagers position.Some research about the related theory of competency,competency model and the talent situation in the development of Building Material Supermarkets was introduced in the essay and the essay tells us how to apply the comptency model to the human resource management system. The study uses Behavior Event interview,questionnaire survey and Factor Analysis as research methods to explore the Copmpetency Model of the Division Managers. The results show the competency model includes eight contents: Communication & influence ability,Inovation & Adaptability,Team management and constuction,Achievement motivation Overall situation,Plan & Execute ability,Customer services Analytical and Decision-making ability.The results and findings in this research are helpful for the related managers in A Building Material supermarket to provide certain direction and reference for the recruitment,trainings performance appraisals compensation management and other aspects of the Division Managers, and the writer also hope the easay can help the Building Material supermarkets unstand clearly the construction process of the competency model and the application to the human resource management.
