Research On The Sustainable Tourism Development Of Chinese Ancient Village

There are lots of ancient villages in the vast land of China. In these last-to-today and well-protected ancient villages, a great amount of material and cultural heritages are retained, which are of high historical values, aesthetic values, science exploration values, etc. But these ancient villages are usually located in places without good transportation, and with backward modern economy. Thus, how to develop these ancient villages and stop the decline of them become what the governments and villagers concern.In the end of 1980s, rural tourism became popular, which provides new opportunities and ways for the development of ancient villages. Many ancient villages began to do tourism business on the basis of the material and cultural heritages left by their ancestors. It has been proved that tourism is an effective way to adjust the economic structure and upgrade the industry, which increase the income of ancient villages.However, when people are happy with the development of ancient villages because of rural tourism, many problems also appears. For example, the destroying of natural environment or space structure of these villages, the conflict between the villagers and tourism companies because of the allocation of economic interest, the destruction of the ancient buildings, the vicious competition between neighboring ancient villages. These problems are related to not only the development of ancient villages'tourism, but also the protection of the heritages of ancient villages and their long-term development. Therefore, how to solve these problems and realize the sustainable development of ancient villages has become an important subject.This thesis, written under the view of sustainable development, based on pre-research, using the methods of document analysis, on-site investigation, comparison, etc., taking Wuyuan as an example, makes a research on the sustainable development of Chinese ancient village's tourism. By analyzing the experience of Wuyuan, this thesis provides the countermeasures for the sustainable development of ancient village tourism. This thesis is consisted of preface, main part and conclusion, including six chapters. In the preface, the research background, research method, and research significance are introduced, and it gives a conclusion of the research results of others by analyzing relevant documents. In Chapter 2, the concept of ancient village is given, the types and characteristics of Chinese ancient village are analyzed, and the concept of ancient village tourism is defined. In Chapter 3, the background and process under which the sustainable developmental view of tourism has been advanced are briefly introduced. And the definitions of sustainable development of tourism given by some foreign researchers and international organizations are introduced, based which the conception, meaning and objective of the sustainable development of ancient village, the significance of realizing sustainable development of tourism in China, are discussed, and the approach of sustainable development of tourism of ancient village are analysed. In Chapter 4, Wuyuan County is taken for example, its history is reviewed, its natural and human tourism resources are introduced, its characteristics of tourism resources is analyzed, and its present situation of development of tourism is discussed. In Chapter 5, through the methods of on-site investigating, document analyzing and comparison, the successful experience of Wuyuan in developing ancient villages'tourism and the problems it is facing now are analyzed. On this basis, by using the scientific theories such as tourism economics, tourism planning and tourism resources development, and from the perspective of protection of ancient villages, tourism development of ancient village, and concomitant adjuvant mechanism, countermeasures for the sustainable development of tourism of Wuyuan's ancient villages are put forward. In Chapter 6, a summary of the research content of this thesis is given, and the deficiency of this thesis and subjects requiring further research are proposed.
