Research On The Karst Areas Participatory Rural Development Models

China is a large country in which rural communities cover a great part of all the communities. Since half the past century, earthshaking changes have taken place in these communities. Numbers of communities have cast away poverty; numbers of them have solved the problem of having adequate food and clothing; and more have lived a well-off life. But due to different reasons, the huge countryside areas still witness quite unbalanced social and economic developments. The rural communities in the Karst stony desertification area in the Southwest are such places where a large population of the centralizedly impoverished ,the highest degree of impoverished and the most severe environmental degradation exist. As for the Karst stony desertification area, the rehabilitation and reestablishment of the Karst environment is a hard complex systematic project, which is closely related to the local social and economic developments. Without the sustainable development in society and economy in these communities, there would be no rehabilitation and reestablishment of the Karst environment Therefore, how to boost the community development there is a serious issue we are confronted with.The purpose of this research is according to the theory of participatory development combined with the related theories of regional economics, Karst environmentology, social economic statistics, and so on, to discuss and research the rural communities participatory development issue in the Karst stony desertification areas; to propound that the participatory development model is an important means to boost the rural community development there and strengthen the notion through the analysis of a typical case. The core of the participatory development model is to grant enough autonomy. Farmers are the main part of the rural development and the motive power to push forward the rural development. The participatory development is great progress in the theory and method about the Karst rural community development, which is of great significance for the economic, social progress and the rehabilitation and reestablishment of community ecological environments in the Karst areas.As an important part of the development theory, the participatory development theory has been successfully and effectively applied to the rational utilization and protection of the natural resources, land use planning, agricultural development and research, community and drainage area planning, policy analysis ect. According to our practice, we come to the point that the theory is of significantly theoretical and practical meaning in well combining the researchers' technical knowledge with the local farmers' experience from their lasting production practice, bringing the local farmers' initiative and enthusiasm into full play, closely integrating research and practice, rural communities development and the like.
