As a newly emerging industry, e-commerce has been developing fast during the past few years, which brings a new opportunity for global economy growth.As a specific version of the web-based economy, the essence of e-commerce is to do business with the novel information technology, which means that technology is just a tool, and the essential part is the commercial mode. Only those modes which produce actual profit have the opportunity to survive and develop. And this leads tothe basic issue of earning money--the profit mode. The e-commerce profit modetheory is bred in the electronic commerce theory and the innovation under the traditional enterprise management and the operation pattern rationale. The proposing of this theory has significant meanings to either the newly founded or the already existing e-commerce businesses.The paper mainly researches the profit mode of e-business. With the discussion on the environment factors of e-business, mean, the characteristics of web-based economy and competition structure, the profit mode is firstly analyzed from the macroscopic view. It is then evaluated in a perspective of constitution elements, and income/outcome analysis. Lastly, several e-commerce profit modes in China is summarized. About analysis, the applicable scope, the competition structure, the key customer, the service direction, the marketing strategy, the cost of operation, the prospective profit, the profit difficulty and many other angles.
