With the development of the national economy, culture and society in recent twenty years, ancient towns become one of the hotspots of the district tourism. Compared with other ancient towns, Jiangnan ancient towns get extensive attention by right of the unique sights and the developing models. The successful exploring of Jiangnan ancient towns not only facilitates the local economy, but also promotes the advancement of the tourism industry in China. But inevitably, Jiangnan ancient towns also come forth some problems that deserve to be highly defended and seriously treated. The problems mostly embody in that recently many ancient towns have stepped or been stepping into the stage of mature development from the initial stage of exploration with the group of stakeholders emerging who affects and is affected by the ancient towns tourism. Harmonization among the need of each stakeholder and harmonization between future developing direction of different stakeholders and good wishes of ancient towns' tourism impersonality become the important problems that managers cannot evade and have to actively face, moreover have to manage.Stakeholder theory coming out aptly enlightens that the tourist site management departments gradually realize that they must pay attention to the demands of all the stakeholders, coordinate the benefit conflicts among them, take on more extensive social obligations and responsibilities besides the single economic goal. Relative studies and some successful practicing experiences in areas indicate that the scientific stakeholder management can balance all the stakeholders' benefit demands of tourism sites, optimize the relationship of them and strive for cooperation with each other to promote the sustainable development of tourism sites. Based on this thought, this dissertation adopts new research angle, attempts to apply stakeholder theory to analyze and study the sustainable development of Jiangnan ancient towns in order to provide a more useful managing trend for ancient towns' management.This dissertation is divided into five parts totally: the first chapter consists of research setting, purpose, study method and frame; analyzes and appraises the study on stakeholder theory in the domestic and abroad tourism field, and summarizes the relationship between stakeholder theory and ancient towns' sustainable development. The second chapter describes and analyzes all the stakeholders of Jiangnan ancient towns on the base of summarizing the process and states quo, draws the fundamental picture of the stakeholders and analyzes the orientation of the core stakeholders. The third chapter mainly expatiates and analyzes the forms of benefit conflicts and potential problems basing on the frame of three big benefits in the tourism sustainable theory, from the core stakeholders aspect and using mutual relationship analysis; it also deeply analyzes existing problems and reasons to show the essential reason of blocking the tourism sustainable development, then can make a good base for establishing a logical management model and system and good developing of Jiangnan ancient towns tourism. Based on the sustainable development theory and the stakeholder theory, and combined with the actual situation of Jiangnan ancient towns tourism, the fourth chapter expatiates the harmonious management model and illustrates the system ensure from its five parts: administrative main body, administrative content, administrative process, administrative objective and administrative achievement. The last part is conclusion and prospects. I summarize the main standpoints, raise some drawbacks of my research, and point out further research direction.
