Industry's international competitiveness forms an important factor of national economic development along with economic globalization process vertically and deeply and international competition aggravates day by day. Manufacturing contributes a lot to China's economy, so it's a significant task for us to promote competitive power of Chinese manufacturing industry quickly and efficiently.Till now, many scholars both at home and abroad have done many deep researches on the effect of technology's innovation on the manufacturing's competitiveness, while there is less quantitative research on the institutional innovation though institution factor has been paid much attention since 1990s.This is made up of five chapters. Chapter one is prodrome, mainly about the research background, difficulties and main points, and study methods. Chapter two is about the theory roots of correlation of institutional innovation and international competitiveness, based on summarizing both institutional theories and international competitiveness theories. The author finds that institution research on international competitiveness theory could trace back to Michael E. Porter(1980).Chapter three first deals with China's institutional innovation since 1978 on three fields: being Market-oriented, opening-up to the outside world and urbanization. Then the paper analyses promotion of manufacturing's international competitiveness and its deficiencies such as poor technology innovation abilities, unreasonable industry structures and so on. Then the paper focuses on the theory research about how institutional innovations could affect manufacturing's productivity through stimulating market competitions, optimizing resources allocation and industry structures. The Chapter four is correlation analysis between institution and international competitiveness of manufacturing industry, which draws the conclusion that institutional innovation contributes a lot to international competitiveness of manufacturing industry and urbanization seems to play a more efficient role in this active mechanism. The last chapter discusses how to intensify competitiveness from the standpoint of institution factors. It points out the objectives and principles of institutional innovation in China.
