Relations between urban and rural areas has always been a fundamental issue facing in the process of China's modernization. However, it should be clear that the income gap between urban and rural areas was constantly widening. It has seriously affected the building of a harmonious society. The income distribution team of Social Sciences Institute of Economic Research launched a nationwide household survey In 1988,1995 and 2002.Recently they has finished the investigation report .and they have made a conclusion about China's urban-rural income gap: the income gap between urban and rural areas is on a downward trend from the beginning of 1994, but from 1997 it gradually expands. The per capita income of residents is almost three times that of rural residents in 2001. the country's Gini coefficient increased by about two percentage points since 2002. China's urban-rural income gap is widening. China's urban-rural income gap is the highest in the world. if the medical care, education, unemployment insurance, and other non-monetary factors taken into consideration, The income gap between urban and rural areas also caused the gradual broadening of the gap between the income of residents in China. A big gap between urban and rural residents is prone to lead to various social problems that affect social stability. Narrowing the gap between rich and poor residents is of great practical significance to the maintenance of social stability and building a harmonious society. Based on this, this paper focus on the Path Selection of narrowing the gap between urban and rural incomes in building a harmonious society. our government should understand the role and bear the responsibility and take effective measures to control and reduce the income gap between the urban and rural poor.This paper attempts to propose the reasons for the formation of the income gap between urban and rural residents and the path of narrowing it. It is based on the analysis of the current income gap and changes quo, also applying the Marxist theory equitable distribution.
