Based on the driving force analysis at local scale, it is found that the land use/ land cover is conditioned by the adaptability of location forctor (prime land-use type) to transportation, topography and the distance to the central city. The analysis which is based on the driving force at region scale revealed that the land use/ land cover in Pukou district is co-determined by the two forces of inner to outer (from city to country) and outer to inner (from country to city). At macroscopic scale, the analysis based on the driving force indicated that high-speed economy growth and fast urbanization process under the national policy refinement is the prime reason of land use/land cover change in Pukou district. The principal land-use types include woodland, arid land and irigated field. Among these land-use types, woodland and irrigated field is in continuous decrease, and the road, lakes, industrial and constructing land-use keep increasing. The river and residential area present different trends, which is decrease first then increase during the two phases of 1988-2000 and 200-2006, however the overall trend is increasing from 1988 to 2006. Ariad land and wetland increase first and then decrease during the two phases(1988~2000 and 2000-2006).The conculsions are as follows:This thesis is based on multi-temperal remote sensing imageries (1998, 2000 and 2006) and Geographic Information Science technology. Methodology of model analysis and mathematic statistics are used to study the land use of Pukou district from the dynamic change of land use and landscape patterns, and finally we found the driving forces that affect the land-use change.Finding a way for rational land use and exploitation is key to continuable land use. So it is important to grasp the track and process of land-use change, find the driving forces that affect land-use change, and finally provide proper suggestion on land resource panning and usage to the decision-makers.Pukou District (former Jiangpu county) locates in the south-west corner of rural area of Nanjing city. It is between Yantze River and Chu River, adjacent to Anhui province on the west and north side. It is an important rounteway of Jiangsu province that connects with Anhui, Hubei and Henan provinces. With the development of economy and the continuous increase of population, the type, quantity and structure of land-use keep varying. The conflict between land resource exploitation and ecological environment conservation, coordinated agricultural development gets severe.Land-use change study is the fundament of ecological environment change research, and also helps to make scientific decisions to regulation and control mankinds' behaviours. Land-use change widely relates to the efficient exploitation and conservation of resource, protection and regulating of ecological environment, farmland conservation and food security, continuable development of social economy et al, and thus influence the future development.Gray system dynamic model are used to simulate the future land use /land cover trend and the predictive equation for the cultivated land, woodland and land for construction. It is predicted that the cultivated land and woodland will still decrease, howver the deceasing magnitude of cultivated land is limited; land for construction and residential area will increase, however the magnitude will decrease.Base on the above research, we give some advice on the continuable development of this district as follows: Pushing forward the newtype industrialization, speeding the optimization and upgradation of industrial component; accelerate the urbanization and urban-modernization process to improve the urban intergrated service function; planning as whole the development of urban and country to accelerate the construction of socialistic new country; strengthen the conservation and construction of ecological environment to improve the capability of regional continuable development.
