This paper focuses on the smuggling in Shandong areas and Kiaochow Customs' suppression of smuggling in the period of Republic of China, on a base of assimilating research production of previous scholars and collecting rare sources, does a research about the characteristics of the smuggling in Shandong areas and the situation of Kiaochow customs' suppression of smuggling during 1920s and 1930s, reveals the ambition of Japan to invade China. At the same time, it discusses the shortcomings of customs suppression of smuggling in the period of Republic of China. Though the analysis on smuggling and suppression of smuggling, the author thinks that the shortcomings of customs suppression of smuggling is due to characteristic of that society and complex exogenous factors to some extent. Also the author expects that the angle of this paper can promote the study of the local smuggling and customs at home and abroad.
