The Application Study Of ERP Data Quality Assessment And Improvement Methodology

Data is the core element of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), therefore data quality becomes one of the crucial factors that lead the implementation of ERP system to success or failure. Today, researchers and practitioners alike have realized the importance of data quality and moved beyond establishing data quality as an importance field. Base on cumulated research efforts, the key point of this thesis is to study the data quality problems in ERP system, and establish the assessment and improvement methodology of data quality in ERP systems.This thesis introduces the theory of data quality first, including data quality definition and several assessment systems which are compared with each other. The theory about Total Data Quality Management (TDQM), researched by MIT, is especially detailed to present. Then a strong emphasis is laid on the data problems in ERP system and the importance of data quality.The ERP data is classified into two categories by the functional modules and business process, the data before and after the implementation of ERP system. This paper discusses the data quality dimension of ERP data and the index system of assessment separately. As to the data before ERP implementation, a mathematical model is recommended to evaluate the data quality from the point of data collection, which provides a clear data quality differences analysis and lays a solid foundation on the ERP implementation. It also applies analytical hierarchy process to determining the weight of indexes of assessment, and the fuzzy comprehensive judgment is used to set up a two-layer assessment model for the data quality after carrying out ERP. This thesis also puts forward the improvement method to enhance the poor data quality based on the results of data quality assessment before and after ERP implementation. Data cleaning techniques are used to improve the data quality before carrying out ERP, and it sets up a data quality enhancement framework. Then it makes use of IP-MAP to analyze the data production process, find the root causes and improve data quality after ERP implementation continuously.At last, the thesis applies the assessment and improvement method to evaluate and enhance the data quality of one organization which has implemented ERP.
