Oil foreign trade especially crude oil import occupies a very important position in China's foreign trade system, which plays a decisive role in China's industrial and economic development. Faced with an increasingly grim situation of the petroleum resources, rising oil prices and fierce competition of oil pressure, how to improve China's oil trade system to ensure oil supply security has become an issue requiring urgent solution without being overlooked for us. In view of such a situation, the paper makes a systematic analysis on China's oil trade, which focuses on improving China's oil trade system approaches and directions. This paper begins at the world's oil resources and present situation of oil trade, making an analysis of the world environment of China's oil trade. Then it further analyzes China's oil resources and sums up China's oil foreign trade development processes, after that it assays the current situation of China's oil foreign trade from several aspects including the structures of China's oil trade, oil trade patterns, oil import sources and oil trade policies. On the basis of these studies, through a series of comparative analysis of the data, this paper points out the problems existing in China's oil foreign trade, including high degree of dependence on foreign trade, single oil import sources and trade patterns, single transport modes and routes, lack of competition in the main body of oil trade, the existence of the oil premium in oil trade. Finally on the basis of the above analysis and drawing on the relevant experience from abroad this paper proposes the corresponding strategies, including reducing degree of dependence on foreign oil trade, developing diversified overseas oil supply system, diversifying the mode and route of oil transport, establishing and improving the mechanism of competition of the main body of oil trade, developing oil futures trade.
