Research On The Foreign Trade Dependence Of Guangdong

From the available literature, the Foreign Trade Dependence (FTD) was mostly studied in the view of the whole country. Colligating the preceding study fruits, the author only study the FTD from the angle of the development in region, that is from the microcosmic angle of development in Guangdong . The FTD of Guangdong has kept growing during the past years, with the China feature and regional character. And the study has practical value. It is the reason why choose the Guangdong province as the study object. Since the reform and opening-up, the GDP of Guangdong, which lies in the Pan-Pear River Delta Regional economic circle, has made a rapid progress. Take advantage of First Step policy and adjacency to Hong Kong and Macau, Guangdong has kept broading the opening scope, and it's export-oriental economiy made great achievements. The FTD of Guangdong has increased from 92.4 percent in 1987 to 160.3 percent in 2006, topping in China mainland. Comparing with the other countries in the world, the FTD of Guangdong is obviously higher than most developed countries and some developing countries like India and Brazil. Then, how to deal with such high FTD of Guangdong? This paper addresses the FTD of Guangzhou from four aspects: the ownership of the commodity composition of foreign trade, foreign trade enterprise, the mode structure of foreign trade and the regional structure of foreign trade. The study reaches a conclusion that the climbing up of Guangdong's FTD is mostly driven by the processing trade, especially by the processing trade which mainly engaged by the foreign-funded enterprise. The manufacture mode of these enterprises is "Large in , Large out" during the processing trade, which lead to the foreign trade volume accumulated in two ways d. The statistics magnify the actual scale of foreign trade of Guangdong and result in the FTD of Guangdong falsely high in some degree. On the base of this conclusion, this paper deeply analyzes the cause of forma of high FTD and draw a conclusion that the reasons of high FTD of Guangdong are the development of processing trade, thestructure of GDP and the domestic demand.Through these analysis, this paper concludes that foreign trade is the impetus and lifeline ofthe economic development of Guangdong. So, we shouldn't ignore the effect of foreign trade, otherwise, we should change the growth way of foreign trade, optimize the structure of foreign trade commodity, explore the foreign market, actively foster domestic enterprise and induct the escalation of processing trade etc.. At the same time, we shouldn't ignore the domestic market. Otherwise, we should integrate the "Going out" and the "Introducing in", utilize the domestic and foreign resource, and deeply establish the scientific foreign trade index system. After taking these steps, the high FTD of Guangdong will be amended, the development of foreign trade will be more rational, the economy in Guangdong so much as the whole country will be safeguarded, the development of economy in Guangdong will be deeply improved.
