With the development of global integrative process and the exertion of WTO, technical barriers to trade (TBTs) has become the principal non-tariff barriers from China as important measures to implement trade protection and adjust interests of various countries in international trade. Technical barriers to trade has also brought a significant impact on China's meat products. China has been a large production country on meat products—the labor intensified products, and the production and process of China's main meat products has been developing gradually, But it did not accomplish big breakthrough with respect to export of main meat products within a long term due to the restriction of technical barriers to trade from other countries. How to evaluate the influence on meat products arising from technical barriers to trade, and consequently to pursue interests and avoid risks to deal with this issue, this has become the focus of many specialists and scholars in China. This paper explains the theory on the formation of technical barriers to trade for meat products based on an overall review of the research achievements in this field from both domestic and abroad, then it analyzes the international competitive strength of China's main meat products, furthermore generalizes the impact imposed on China's meat products by technical barriers to trade from other countries.Considering the infeasibility of using metrics method to analyze the entire meat products, this paper takes china's pork product export to Japan as an example, and analyzes Japan's maximum residual limits standard on the export of China's pork products, Analysis shows that, as the standard on antibiotics and veterinary drugs become more stringent, the maximum reduction of china's pork product export to Japan could be reduced by 29.19%. Based on the studies both determined in nature and quantity, at last this dissertation proposes several pieces of suggestions on how to deal with technical barriers to trade to promote the export of China's main meat products.
