Research On Regional Leading Industry Selection Based On Newly-Industrialization

In 2002, the Sixteen People's Gongress initiates a development strategy based on newly industrialization, which raises new requirement for regional leading industry. In other words, development of leading industry should reflect the essential of newly-industrialization so as to develop regional economy fastly and steadily. Therefore, it is extremetly important to research the problem of regional leading industry selection from the angle of newly-industrialization. On the basis of previous studies, this paper aims to make empirical analysis so as to resolve these issues.This paper can be divided into four sections.In the introduction, we clarify the related issue and background information. We also expound the purpose and meaning of the research. Then, we sum up the literature reviews and illustrate the idea and method of this paper.In section two, we define the notion, function and characteristics of regional leading industry. At first, we clarify the notion of regional leading industry from the angel of regional leading industry selection. Then, we compare the difference between leading industry and pillar industry. At last, we discuss the function and characteristics of regional leading industry based on newly-industrialization.In section three, we discuss model setup. Firstly, we mentioned the theoretical basis for regional leading industry selection. Secondly, we discussed the external restriction condition. Thirdly, we bring forward six criterions for selecting leading industry, namely potential of growth, employment capacity, technical intensity, sustainable development and regional dominance. Lastly, we construct a model for leading industry selection. The model can be divided into three parts, including objective, criterion and index. Meanwhile, we put forward principal component method for this model.In section four, we make empirical analysis of leading industry selection in Hubei province. After reviewing the reality of industries in Hubei province, we analyze the external restriction condition and estimate the model with Hubei data. After the calculation and restriction condition analysis, we found out the leading industry of Hubei province, namely telecommunication equipment, computers and other electronic device, petrol chemical industry, petrol chemical industry, transportation equipment, and ferrous metal smelting and rolling processingtransportation equipment, and ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing. . .
