During different stages of economic development of one region or country, one or a few industry (group) always has the strongest competitiveness, the fastest growing and the highest correlations with other industries, they drive the development of the whole regional economy and promote the upgrading of industrial structure, we identify them as leading industries. Selecting appropriate leading industries for a region plays an irreplaceable role in the adjustment and upgrading of its industrial structure.Consequently, the research of selection of leading industries has vital practical significance. This paper converts the problem of selection of leading industries to the problem of mining of important nodes in complex network by using a new model——complex network, a theory deriving from computer science. The aim of this paper is to provide a more scientific method to solve the problem of selection of leading industry.Firstly, on the basis of the 2010 extended input-output table of Beijing, this paper constructs an industry complex network to describe correlations among Beijing’s industries. Secondly, in order to find those industies who have high correlation with others, this paper uses subgroup method, a mining technology of important nodes in complex networks, to mine those nodes who have high correlation with other nodes.Compared with traditional method, it considers both direct relation and indirect relation between different industries which will lead to a more reasonable result.Thirdly, combining with the indicator of knowledge intensity and the indicator of industry scale, this paper determines the leading industries of Beijing’s future development. After that, it uses clique percolation method of complex networks to mine a "leading industry clusters", a cluster who contairis most of the leading industries we have chosen and in which industies have very high correlation with each other, in Beijing’s industrial complex network to make an analysis. At the end of this paper, it provides suggestions and countermeasures about how to develop these leading industries.
