A Study On Construction Of Hotel Environmental Ethics

Hotels, especially those star-rated ones are the high consumption places for people to do business, travel, recreation and vacation after the living standard was increased. As the service industry, hotels occupy and expend a large amount of natural resources during daily operation, thus producing much household garbage which leads to some pollutions and the waste of resources.In the 21st century, people must pay attention to environment protection and maintain the stabilization, permanence and beauty of the biosphere in order to achieve the sustainable development. As for hotels, they must emphasize on the environmental benefit while pursuing social and economic benefits. The environment ethic of hotels is the ethic regulations and rules that hotel enterprises must abide by. It is the summation of ethic rules, moral regulations and moral practice concerned with environment during hotels'operation as well as the moral study on the relationship between hotel and environment. In the Report of the 17th CPC National Congress, President Hu Jintao pointed:"to construct the ecological civilization, almost form the industrial structure, the way of increase and consumption manner of saving resources and protecting ecological environment. The main pollutants should be effectively controlled and the ecological environment should be significantly improved."Hotel environment ethic construction is to study the ecological construction of hotels from the angle of environment ethic.Some first-hand materials of the environment ethic of hotel operation and management are obtained through the research from the star-rated hotels in the four unique tourism cities of Shenyang, Beijing, Shenzhen and Sanya. From the analysis we can see that the lack of environment ethical consciousness among hotel staff is quite common, the over-consumption is serious and thebehavior of disobeying environmental moral is rather obvious, all of which result in the serious waste of resources. Hotel environment ethic requires that the manager change their view of operational value and the commercial way of thinking. They should impose the appropriate regulation and sanction on the employees. As for the management and practical activities of hotel, they should make some self-control and adjustment, implementing a rational way of service and consumption that is correspondent with environment capacity, fostering the consciousness, ideas and behaviors of kindly dealing with the environment, thus making the staff and the consumers realize that to obey the hotel environment ethical criterion and strengthen its construction are the requirement of meeting with the international hotel industry as well as the requirement of the increasing"green"consumers. Therefore, it is urgent for the hotel industry in our country to carry out its environment ethic construction, establishing the rules and moral regulation and proposing the concept of hotel environment ethic; probing into the connotation and its difficulty of hotel environment ethic; trying to construct hotel environment ethic from the aspects of conscious culture, system culture and substantial culture, actively building environment amiable hotels and making contribution to the ecological civilization in a harmonious society.
