In June 2007, China has selected Chongqing as the only pilot reform province in the country targeting coordinated rural and urban development through reforms in all sectors, according to a document issued by the NDRC, which has been approved by the State Council. As the head of rural areas and tail of cities, urban-rural fringe is the concentration field of issues which the urban and rural coordinateness is facing. Taking Xumu Community of Lianhua Village, Tushan Town, in Nan'an District as a specific case, using the method combining theoretical analysis and field research, this paper analyzes the status and existing problems in the changing and development of Chongqing's urban-rural fringe, explores their forming mechanisms, and extracts relevant countermeasures for the harmonious development of Chongqing's urban-rural fringes at last. The contents of the dissertation can be divided into four parts as follows:Part 1: Introduction. This part expounds the background and significance, writing thread and methods of this paper, which helps to understand generally the whole thesis.Part 2: Theories. This chapter is based on numerous literatures. Firstly, it expounds the definition, specialties, the scope, and the main functions of the Urban-Rural Fringe, that helps to understand it generally. Secondly, expounds related theories, which lay a solid theoretical foundation for the thesis, which includes the theories of urban-rural relationship, regional economics, and regional sustainable development, and so on. Among them, the "Garden City" is a nicety description of our urban-rural integration prospects; the Thunen's agricultural location theory is regarded as a classic theory and helps greatly to improve the study of the Urban-Rural Fringe; regional sustainable development theory highlights its tridimensional specificities; and the thoughts of Nash Equilibrium and Externality are widely used in follow studies.Part 3: Demonstration. On the base of the theoretical analysis, this part takes Xumu Community of Lianhua Village, Tushan Town, in Nan'an District of Chongqing as an example. It studies its background, microcosmic status in quo, problems lie in the status quo, theoretical and practical reasons of these issues, and the solutions, layer upon layer.Part 4: Conclusion. Draws conclusions, puts forward sublimed suggestion to the strategy of urban-rural coordinateness, points out deficiencies and follow-up research directions of this study.
