The growing competition in the market bas brought enormous pressure to the management of commercial banks, while the Performance Appraisal System (PAS) is an effective tool to conduct such pressure to various management levels within the banks. Scientific performance appraisal can contribute to a correct understanding of self, guide the operation and management, and help improve competitive and sustainable abilities of the commercial banks. The thesis carries out a case study of Jiangxi Branch of China Construction Bank to explore the PAS and find better ways to perfect it.The first part of the thesis starts with a review of the theoretical background of PAS and a systematic combing through existing practices, followed by a clear description of the current status and internal relations of the system, and finished by a detailed analysis of the major problems and causes of the recent PAS.The major part of the thesis analyzes the development strategy of Jiangxi Branch and draws a strategic map based on the real situation. The drawing of the map is used to create a fostering situation for the key factors of finance, customer search, internal process, learning and growth. It also helps to perfect the basic principle of the present PAS.The final part of the thesis puts forward a general guideline and several specific measures of PAS, makes the improved PAS model, and adjusts the Key Performance Indicators according to the strategic map.The thesis does not intend to construct a new PAS but aim for a betterment of existing PAS. As a result, the proposed concept or specific measures here must follow the prerequisite of operability.
