Great changes have taken place in the competitive environment due to the globalization of the economy, which has made international competitiveness one of the hottest issues worldwide. With the development of China's economy, China's enterprises have gained some comparative advantages on investment in foreign countries. More and more enterprises have started transnational corporations and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). China has already become a big power of production and foreign trade, but her FDI still lags behind other countries. Cultivating a large number of large competitive enterprises has become very urgent and necessary. Therefore, developing an understanding of the relative theories, and deeply analyzing the situation of China's FDI competitiveness, as well as components of enterprises' competitiveness, have played very important roles in improving competitiveness of Chinese investment in the international market. Based on the review of researches on competitiveness, and the theory of FDI by scholars from China and abroad, this thesis introduces and compares the international competitiveness between foreign enterprises and Chinese enterprises in the world market.Through combining qualitative study with quantitative study, and theoretical analysis with practical analysis, this thesis establishes an international competitiveness appraisal system index, and a model for Chinese enterprises in the world market. By comparing the index between Chinese and foreign enterprises, we try to find out the problems and the countermeasures during cultivating international competitiveness of Chinese direct investment in foreign countries. Based on the analysis above, this thesis offers some countermeasures on cultivating the competitiveness of environment, management, operation, marketing, finance and corporate culture. First, according to the experience of developed countries, this paper presents some cultivating modes which are rooted in natural resources, politics and economics, technology and culture. Second, the core problem of cultivating management competitiveness is to construct competitiveness in strategy management and resource management. Third, technological innovation and national famous brands are the original source of operational competitiveness. Fourth, the enterprises can cultivate their marketing competitiveness by marketing procedure, marketing strategy and marketing net. Last, the enterprises should develop their own culture which can combine the characteristics of China with other countries and meet the requirement of the time.
