The development of ports has been a long time. A great number of ports are transforming from the third generation of ports to the forth ones, and the roles that ports playing in a country or region are becoming more and more important. In recent years, logistics and supply chain management have gained a lot of attention from many industries, to solve the problem in the current research of port competitiveness, this paper evaluates port competitiveness with the theory of logistics and supply chain management. The evaluation research on port competitiveness mainly includes the establishment of port competitiveness evaluation indicators system and the choice of evaluation method. For the development of economics, the factors that influence port competitiveness are changing unceasingly, thus there is no systematic and authoritative indicators system for evaluation. To evaluate port competitiveness comprehensively, some researchers chose a large number of indicators for evaluation, which have increased the workload of analysis and reduced the accuracy. In the aspect of evaluation methods selection, the determination of indicators' weights in subjective evaluation methods mainly depends on the experts' experience, which results in high subjectivity. To solve the problems mentioned above, the thesis has analyzed the change of ports' role in the environment of supply chain management and the influence caused by supply chain in the evaluation of port competitiveness, and then an indicator system was set up with the theories of port competitiveness and supply chain management. Besides, to reduce the influence of subjective factors, artificial neural network method was used for the evaluation. Two evaluation models, i.e. BP neural network based on additional momentum method and modified activation function method, RBF neural network, have been put forward in the paper. Fifteen samples of ports have also been used to test the models. Furthermore, measures on improving the ports compositeness are also proposed in this paper.
