Ancient city of Lijiang is a world cultural heritage endorsed by UNESCO and one of the Chinese leading historic cultural cities announced by state council. It has the unique appearance of a city known for both mountain and water city characters, containing interesting culture in Naxi nationality. It is exactly the charming space form that constantly attracts visitors all over china and abroad to the ancient city of Lijiang to enjoy its charm leisurely. It is named"gongbenzhi"by the local people, which means a marketing town for gathering goods carried from afar The city's heart is Sifangjie, a business plaza as the center of the city's network construction. The extended layout of the city appears irregular and asymmetric. The city wall,a usually more like Venice.The study on ancient city of Lijiang is defers to from proposed the question to the investigation present situation, the analysis question, finally solves the problem. It makes use of the first hand data that on-site inspection and the historical materials, based on the analysis of Space Form of landscapes ,which investigates the space form and actuality space form of ancient city of Lijiang. Basing on the study above, this paper analyses the space form of ancient city of Lijiang from the different views of"leading factors from above to below"and"self-organization process from below to above". The study of"leading factors from above to below"begins with the compare of the space evolvement of ancient city of Lijiang and the evolvement of economy, geography, polity, culture and architecture technique. In succession, the study analyses the space form of ancient city of Lijiang from four layers: the whole space of the ancient city, the interior space of landscapes of the ancient city, the neighbour of block and the space of house. The study of"self-organization process from below to above"begins with the analysis of the inhabitation element called Fang that composes the plane and interface of five sorts of architecture unit, the courtyard and neighbours of block, the relation of courtyards, the space form of neighbour of block.. Through all the analysis above, this paper sums up the different leading factors that influence the space evolvement and different space layers of ancient city of Lijiang, and generalizes the embodiment of characteristic about the plane and interface of architecture unit in four space layers of the village.Through the study above, this paper conclude that the space of ancient city of Lijaing is a complex integrated system , which is composed of architecture, street, water system, node, green landscape. The landscape space of ancient city is make up of architecture space, street space, water space and space nodes, green space, the overall space. The ancient city began to form from combination. impaction of space each other.Natural geographical conditions, ideological and cultural, political, economic and other factors have determined the ancient city of space for development.
