With the advancing of reforming and opening to the world in China, logistics industry developed rapidly. Being one of the most potential industries in 21th century, logistics industry is not only the arteries in the national economy operation, but also plays an important role in the production scale and change of industrial structure. The development level of logistics industry has a direct impact on a country's economic growth and economic competitiveness. Especially in recent years, governments in all scale have been fully aware of important role of modern logistics. They are taking logistics industry in consideration to develop regional economy and promote enterprises competitiveness. There were many national scholars researching logistics industry very early, however, due to the difficulty of current data collection and procession, research on the productivity of logistics industry was always the difficult points in this field.The thesis comes from the project of service industry productivity theory and its utilization in China supported by National Natural Science Foundation (sanction number: 70471020). This thesis utilizes the productivity theory as well as the econometrics method and so on, through the research of productivity measure's elementary theory to determine the logistics industry productivity measure model, then the thesis uses the surmounting logarithm stochastic front production function to conduct the empirical study of China logistics industry during 1998~2006 years and makes a comparative analysis on the result.First of all, the thesis summarized systematically domestic and foreign productivity research results which close related to this topic, for the purpose of being clear about the present research situation of productivity measure issue, in order to provide the general instruction for the paper theory. Secondly, the thesis analyzed the current condition of China's logistics industry, include infrastructure, regional logistics, information-based, third-party logistics and logistics market. Thirdly, through analysising total factor productivity calculated methods, the thesis determined the model which suitful our country logistics industry productivity measure, namely the frontier production function. Fourth, the thesis used the model to conduct an empirical study on our country's 1998~2006 years logistics industry productivity condition. The thesis collected more than 900 datas we need, then operated current more advanced front production function's computational procedure——Frontier4.1to calculate Chinese logistics industry productivity condition during 1998~2006 years, Simultaneously the thesis gets every province' technology progress (TP), the technical efficiency (TE) and the total factor productivity (TFP). The result indicated: TFP of Chinese logistics industry has increased from 2.88% of 1998 to 5.62% of 2006, doubled during the past 9 years, which indicated TP had played an important role in the growth of China's logistics industry. Through further analysising the result of our country's logistics industry productivity, the thesis proposed strategic ways and advices of logistics industry's economic growth.
