Channel Construction Project Risk Management Research

Channel construction is a dynamic process and a high-risk project. Most of the previous researches on channel risk control were based on the theory of marketing principle and operations perspective, focused on the risk's re-disposal, reflection and improvement, which lacked of foresight and initiative on how to identify, handle and guard the risk.Based on project management view, the thesis did risk study on channel construction project by using project management thinking and methods. First of all, analyzing channels construction project's characteristic, identifying Benefit counterparts, and establishing channels for the constructing project WBS with life-cycle theory. Secondly, the theses summarize channel construction projects relevant risk management theory and methods. Thirdly, risk management tools such as project probability evaluation, plan, audit, sustained risk management and risk knowledge extension etc. result in the channel construction projects initiation, planning, implementation, control and the risk identification, assessment, risk mitigation strategy research, risk management channels at the end of construction stage, which come to the general approach and specific methods. Finally, Lenovo, as a very successful example on IT sector in the construction and operation channels, was used to be illustration study here to identify and assess the potential risk, develop a risk mitigation strategy with combine Lenovo's risk control measures on channel construction, using Benefit counterparts, and risk auditing and other successful project management tools together, all of those above caused Lenovo's greatly success. It could be a good reference for the other enterprises.Through the above researches, the conclusion could be reached as following: correct identification of Benefit counterparts is the first step to the channel-building project in risk management; scientific and effective project management is the key of a risk Management; initial risk assessment is the best time during the first phase of risk management evaluation; planning of the project risk identification, priorities classification and accordingly risk mitigation strategies, contingency risk management plan is the fundamental guarantee whether the plan is scientific, effective or not. As for the implementation phase, sustained risk management is to ensure that the final project to meet project expected needs.Due to author's knowledge and practice limitation on project management, risk management and operation management on channels construction, all of the researches relied on subject estimation: lacking of channels construction project risk measurement and assessment, especially no rules could be followed. Actually, during risk management processes, it also needs establish a series of scientific and effective risk judgment rules bases on enterprises risk affordable capacity, project goals, risk management cost etc. to test the risk in an acceptable range.
